Got orders to strike tents, did
so+ got on a line- remained 2
hours + then switched them,(?) teams
remained loaded. Capt + I slept
with Perry. Drop(?) Parade-

Strike tents + got on a line 12
but didn’t get started on the way.
He(?) after 3- went across the
Antretown(?) – by Bryans from works
and encamped in a fald(?) a mile
or more beyond- Teams not

7th Oct- Authilam(?) From Works Md.
across Elk Mountain- hoped on the
ridge- down a hill descent + studied
a road coming to Harpers Ferry-
followed this road ½ a mile then went
East + Crooked(?) the main ridge-
Road for a mile obstructed by trees +
stones- Placed there by Gen. Ford(?) when
he held H Ferry- 88 miles from Washington
Splendid view of Pleasant Valley
from the top-
Had a hard run down the moun
-tain- arrived at the camping spot(?)
2½ P.M. (?) – ½ mile from Warmth East
side of Israel Creek(?)- for 10 miles
from A.F(?). + 3 or 4 from H. Ferry.
Very many straglers(?)
Sgts. Goopher(?) + Partridge just wander(?) past(?)
Perry came in about 8 P.M.

8th Oct(?) drill at 10
No afternoon drills Lt. Raymond on guard
Eat dinner in a house with LD.led*(?)
of 45th Ry + some Rebels. Drep(?) Parade
porrison sick in night

9th Oct. Pleasant Valley-

after it-   Got better from Mary + from Balto(?)
Complaint made to Col. about our

he was in Balt. 2 weeks. left Fred(?) City
last Tuesday followed on route.

-Got rocks(?) lighted about 4½ a.m. + wall(?)
dried up- Refugees coming in from
the otherside-

-9 a.m.- Camped on Reg.(?)- 1 cos.(?) near the
R.R.

Brigade came to relieve ours-
20th Mich. relieved us. –
9 A.M Got on line – 10 Started. (crops?)
the canal – & about 11 got regularly
under way – Saw the “Point of Rocks”
the rock displaced & the whole thing.
-R.R is under a part of the moun-
-tain, rocks vertical 50 to 73 ft. high
-Wall between it & Canal – & the river
very near – A ragged looking
place- 11. P.of Rocks, not as high
These rocks are the end of
Cactoctin Range – broken through to
give a bed for the river. P.of.R. 48 ½ miles
from W. Lock (hur?) & (p…?) of a bridge ax
the canal & River – Lockabou U.P.of.R.
Good bridge acres of Catoctin Creek
Lock between it & Berlin
Lock & bridge at Berlin – 55 miles from W.
Weverton 57 miles – Lock- At the
End of South Mountain- Middleton.
Valley between – River low & in
many places fordable-

marched through Lovetsville
past a number of troops –
the country is rolling – but
very fertile – […] better
looking than we have seen lately
stone or brick chimney inside
saw Gen. Burnside
Army telegraph as far as Lovetsville
[…] through Waterford +
camped in the […] valley
had to sleep outdoors again
8 miles from L. to W. making
about 9 mile march
camped after sunset
one of our men arrested – had him
released by speaking to 6th of […]

30th Oct. Waterford VA
Moved a half-mile to the east –
crossing the street + camped on the
side hill facing south –
1st Div. Gen. Wilcox is now in line here
1st Brig. alright -2nd on Left.  3d in Centre
Waterford has for you inhabitants +
seems to be loyal.

31st Had a muster of troops for the
first time – also monthly inspection
Completed + Muster rolls
Ending – 1st Nov.
No Drills – but had Drip Parade
Draw – 2 days rather Bread. Pork

Sat up all night – had a pleas
ant time.
Heard firing in the S.W. (3d saw 2 of the 3d in. Cavalry who
were in the fight near Fillermont(?) between Snickers(?)  + Ashbys’ gap)

2nd Nov. Sunday – Sent #8 […]
Got on line about 9 A.M –
got fairly started at 11 –
Passed through Harmony for Hamilton 5 miles
–Rested an hour Goose Creek Mfg. House
– a Quaker settlement.

2nd Nov. Fillermont ^(Philomont)  Va. Phillermont

–Arrd at F   – about 8 Pill-making
9 hours -+ about 14 miles.
Camped in woods where our battery
was planted saturday

3d – Saw Rebel in this [] []
near on battery – Saw Snickers

– Ashby + Manassas Gaps are
in [] of Rebels –
2 – brigades of bat.  1 of [] + 2 bat went on yesterday
-Our Div.  had one reg battery of 10 lb. Passots

Union to within 2 or 3 miles of Upper
ville  – about 10 miles – Gen. Burn
side helped us during P.M. going on
to front returned after dark – camped on a hill near Mrs. Fletch(?)
Mansion – Slept with Perry.
