5th Sept. On board Ltr. Merrimack
Passed Smiths isld. Light
Aboard 12 M. Rounded into
The bay- Anchored at
12 mrd(?) in the Potomac

6th Got under weigh at 5 a.m.
Passed sguna(?) breek(?) 10 a.m.
“     Mount Vernon about noon
Arrd. Alexandria soon after ,,
Made fast to wharf about 5
Rebs. entered Frederick –

7th Sunday
Went aboard Str. City of Norwich
landed in Washington and camped on
4 ½ st. – slept on ground –
No services – sent note to Mr. Wm(?)
but it didn’t reach him-

8th Monday- served out shelter
tents camped on same ground under
them- tent about 4 ½ x 5 ft.

9th Sept. Washington
Marched 11 miles to Leesboro(?)
Stopped for dinner on Georgetown
heights-  Very dusty- hard
march-  men carrying knapsack(?)

10th In Camp Forbes- drill-

11th In camp – Step(?) Parade- first trng?

12th Marched 11 miles to Brook
mill(?) – through Mechanicsville
– turned off the Pike just before
reaching Brlle(?)- main body of Rebs. left Frederick(?)
Burmeide(?) reaching                            Kemptown(?)

13th In camp- pretty good
country- Drill- Step(?) parade
Heard fesing(?)
Burnside entered Frederich(?)

14th Sunday- Services(?) in Poll.
Very good- Heard heavy fising(?)
nearly all day
Fighting north of Middletown
